The music in the game is CD Audio, and you must be able to play Audio CD's in order to hear the music. To check to see if you have this capability, place a regular Audio CD in your drive. If the CD drive light comes on, and the CD AUDIO player in Multimedia starts up, but you hear no music, the usual cause of the problem is that the CD AUDIO OUT connector on the CDROM drive is not connected to the CD AUDIO IN connector of the soundcard. Check with your system or sound card manufacturer for the proper cable to connect these to enable CD Audio.

If you are getting normal sounds such as Wav files, out of both speakers, the problem is caused by a setting for the sound card. Try the following to correct this:1. If this fails to correct the problem, then the most likely cause is a faulty CD Audio cable (this connects the CD AUDIO OUT on the CD drive to the CD AUDIO IN on the sound card itself).

This is a known issue with this particular processor. When DirectX installs, the processor emulates Soundblaster, so DirectX installs the certified Sound Blaster drivers, but they do not work with the Cyrix MediaGX. Here are a few secrets that will help you in your quest in Beast Wars. 1. Missile Lock Holding down the fire button will lock a missile on top of an enemy. By keeping it held down, you can target up to 5 enemies at once. When you release the button, all the enemies you've locked onto will be fired at.2. Timing your Stops With the faster characters, watch how fast you move them around the game, like Tarantulus and Inferno. Occassionally, you'll want to put on the brakes in time to stop ahead of a certain object, such as the edge of a cliff. 3. Choosing the Right characterChoose your character based on the mission needs. If you reach a level where energy is scarce, Megatron would be a good choice. If a level is best played with speed, think about Scorponok or Cheetor, not necessarily strong, but very fast.4. When turning corners, use the Turn & Strafe feature. This works well when you're going after enemies one-on-one, but be careful using it when you encounter more than one opponent.5. Sideways Roll. Sometimes, you can do an escape by doing a Sideways roll. There is no Sideways roll key, just double-tap the Strafe button.

You must first successfully complete all the Desert and Urban levels before you can access the Volcano and Polluted levels in the game. The music in the game is CD Audio, and you must be able to play Audio CD's in order to hear the music. To check to see if you have this capability, place a regular Audio CD in your drive. If the CD drive light comes on, and the CD AUDIO player in Multimedia starts up, but you hear no music, the usual cause of the problem is that the CD AUDIO OUT connector on the CDROM drive is not connected to the CD AUDIO IN connector of the soundcard. Check with your system or sound card manufacturer for the proper cable to connect these to enable CD Audio

This will occur if the setup program for DirecfX detects an internal error. The main reason for this error is that Dsetup.dll could not load the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files. To correct this, rename the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files.1. Go to Start, choose Find, choose Files or Folders.2. In the Named box, type ""dsetup*.*"" (without the quotes), then click Find Now.3. In the files found, find the dsetup16.dll file. Right-click on it, choose Rename, and rename it to dsetup16.dxx.4. This is a known issue with this particular processor. When DirectX installs, the processor emulates Soundblaster, so DirectX installs the certified Sound Blaster drivers, but they do not work with the Cyrix MediaGX. Compaq has available a service pack that will install the proper drivers, and also adds DirectX certification for the sound card. To determine if you have this MediaGX processor, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab, and then click the '+' sign by Sound, Video and Game Controllers. If you see either XpressAUDIO 16-bit Sound or Cyrix XpressAUDIO listed, then you have this processor and will need to get the service pack from Compaq to correct this problem

As you enter the Beast Wars game, a Maximal ship has chased a Predacon vessel through a time warp and both have crash landed on a planet much like Earth, in the time that dinosaurs ruled. Upon landing, the Predacons have stolen a golden disk containing the location of a major Energon source that, if found, will enable them to resume an intergalactic war with the Maximals. The Maximals and Predacons realize the power of the Energon is so intense it will damage their robotic structures with prolonged exposure. Therefore, to survive in this environment, both groups use bio-genetic engineering to fuse their robotic body structures with native animal life forms. The result: wild animals which can transform into robot warriors to engage in an explosive fight to the finish. The game is set even further in the future than the current television series. The Maximals and Predacons have settled in distinct areas around the planet, and have developed their own bases and armies to aid in the fight against their opposing forces. The game play is made even more exciting by the invasion of alien monsters called the Skriix. The Skriix arrive through an inter-dimensional porthole and lay waste to all they encounter! Rattrap and BlackArachnia are hidden characters found in the first and second polluted zone. You will receive this character as a bonus character which you can get after the flying mission.

The flying missions are bonus rescue missions, where you can retrieve a lost member of your team lost on an earlier mission.

Beast Wars PC requires and uses DirectX 5, which is not supported in the NT environment. NT 4 with Service Pack 3 only adds support for DirectX 3 functionality, and the game will not function in NT.

DirectX Installation

This is an indication that DirectX was not successfully installed. To correct this, simply re-install DirectX from the CD.1. Go to Start, then Find, then click on File or Folders.2. In the Named field, type Dxsetup.exe. Make sure the Look in field specifies the CD-ROM drive.3. Click on Find Now.4. Double click on Dxsetup.exe and click on the Reinstall DirectX button.5. Restart the system when prompted.

This error will occur if the the DirectX utility, DXTOOL, is unable to properly detect the type of video in the system. This usually occurs when the video card has Emulated VRAM, or does not have at least 1MB of VRAM on the video card. This is below the minimum requirements for the game, and the card would need to be upgraded or replaced to correct the problem.

This will occur if the screen is not maximized, and you are running with DirectX Direct3D Hardware Acceleration enabled. To correct this, obtain the latest drivers from ATI, version 4.10.2278 or later, that will correct this problem. These can be obtained from their website, at www.atitech.com.

Click the SETTINGS tab. 4. Click the Down arrow by 'Color Palette, and select 16-bit High-color. 5. Set the Desktop Resolution to 800 x 600. 6. Click APPLY, and restart the system if prompted. If you set your resolution to those settings and still encounter the problem, this usually means that the monitor itself is not setup properly. Right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties from the menu. Click the Settings tab, then the Advanced Properties button. Click the Monitor tab(this will usually say ""Unknown""). Click the Change button, and after Windows builds the driver information database, select the proper monitor type. If possible, contact the monitor manufacturer and obtain the drivers for your monitor. If you cannot obtain the any drivers for the monitor, try setting the monitor to Plug and Play under Standard Monitor Types. Click Apply, then Ok or Close, and restart the system if prompted to. If, after trying the above, you still encounter the problem, then try these suggestions.1. Using Windows Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\Directx\Setup\Dxtool.exe.2. Click on the check mark next to Use DirectDraw Hardware Acceleration.3. Click on Apply, and then OK.You can also try adjusting the computers Graphics Acceleration.1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.2. Double-click on the System icon.3. Click on the Performance tab.4. Click on the button labeled ""Graphics""5. Move the Slider for Video acceleration one notch to the left6. Click Apply or Close, and restart the system when prompted.If this fails to correct the problem, check with your system manufacturer to obtain the latest audio and video drivers for your system that are DirectX compatible.

Installation

Try the following suggestions to help you install the game:1. Go to Start and choose Run.2. Type SYSEDIT in the dialog box, and click OK.3. Look in the 'C:\Autoexec.bat' window of the System Configuration Editor. Is there an entry for SET TEMP=?4. If not, start a new line and type SET TEMP=C:\windows\temp. 5. Go to File and choose Save.6. Restart your system and try the installation again. If this does not work, try the following: 1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click the C: drive icon.2. Double-click the Windows folder, then double-click the Temp folder. 3. Choose Edit, then Select All. When all the files in the Temp folder are highlighted, hit the Delete key on your keyboard. These files are just temporary files used in installations and have no practical purpose on your system. 4. Close all these windows to return to your desktop. 5. With your Right mouse button, click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and choose Properties from the menu. 6. Click the Performance tab, then the Graphics button. 7. Move the slider for 'Hardware Acceleration' one notch to the left. (It should now say ""Most Accelerator Functions"") 8. Click OK, close the window, and restart the system when prompted. 9. When your system is running again, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard, and select any item in the dialog box, except 'Explorer' and 'Systray.' Click End Task. Keep doing this until there is nothing left in the dialog box except 'Explorer' and 'Systray.'10. You should now be able to successfully install the game.

This error is generated by the install program when it is unable to access enough memory in which to run. Close all other open applications, including screensavers and anti-virus programs, then install the game.

This error is generated by the Install program itself. This can occur for a couple of different reasons:1. You have selected the root directory of a drive in which to install the game. Re-run the install program, and go with the default directories for the install. 2. This will occur if the install program is trying to copy a file that your system has locked as read-only or in use. Exit the install program, restart the system, and shutdown all other background applications to make sure all files are closed and can be copied. 3. You do not have enough free harddrive space to install the game. Free up at least 60mb of free space, then install the game.4. Make sure the Supplemental Cache Size for the CD-ROM is set to Large: - Right click on My Computer and left click on Properties. - Click on the Performance tab - Click on File System and Click on the CD-ROM tab. Make sure the slider bar is all the way to the right, and it is set for Quad-speed or higher.

This will occur if the setup program for DirecfX detects an internal error. The main reason for this error is that Dsetup.dll could not load the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files. To correct this, rename the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files.1. Go to Start, choose Find, choose Files or Folders.2. In the Named box, type ""dsetup*.*"" (without the quotes), then click Find Now.3. In the files found, find the dsetup16.dll file. Right-click on it, choose Rename, and rename it to dsetup16.dxx.4. In the files found, find the dsetup32.dll file. Right-click on it, choose Rename, and rename it to dsetup32.dxx.5. Re-install DirectX.

This is usually caused by a conflict with some other program running in the background, such as a screensaver or anti-virus program. Shut down any other application, including things like virus scanners, then install the program.
