I have a Cyrix MediaGX processor in my Compaq, and I cannot get the sound to work in the game, or I have no sound in my system after installing the game.
This is a known issue with this particular processor. When DirectX installs, the processor emulates Soundblaster, so DirectX installs the certified Sound Blaster drivers, but they do not work with the Cyrix MediaGX. Compaq has available a service pack that will install the proper drivers, and also adds DirectX certification for the sound card. To determine if you have this MediaGX processor, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab, and then click the '+' sign by Sound, Video and Game Controllers. If you see either XpressAUDIO 16-bit Sound or Cyrix XpressAUDIO listed, then you have this processor and will need to get the service pack from Compaq to correct this problem.

I am playing as the Allies, and I need some tips
Below are some tips for the Allied player:- Russia needs to take out the German subs and ships. Attack Eastern Europe or Finland to keep Germany at bay, and remember to fortify Karelia against the inevitable German assault. Once you've tied up Germany, buy INF and ARM to hold out against Japan.- Britain needs to dig in until the US can get troops across to help them out. Send a couple of FTR's or INF over to Karelia to help out Russia; transport units to Africa to keep Germany from having a cakewalk. - The US needs to buy and transport troops to Western Europe as soon as possible. Start after Japan only after Germany is no longer a serious threat.
I am playing as the Axis, and I need some tips.
Axis & Allies had had many pages of tips and strategies written about it, so there is no way to cover all of the different strategies and tips available. However, below are a few general tips if you are playing as the Axis:- Germany should wipe out the UK Navy, and blockade Eastern Europe with as many troops as you can spare. Try to take Karelia as soon as you can, and blitz through Africa for those much-needed IPC's. - Japan should try to transport as many units, including tanks, to Asia to help take out Russia. Watch the situation in the Pacific, and make sure to defend against the US until you've built up industrial strength. (one popular move is for the Japanese player to buy an IC and place it in Manchuria or French Indo-China.).
I can place multiple AA guns in a single territory. Isn't this against the rules?
According to the rules for the CD-ROM game, this a 3rd edition rule (which are on by default when you start a game). You can now place multiple AA guns within a single territory. However, only one of these AA guns can fire in a turn.
I did an amphibious assault, and decided to retreat, but was unable to retreat my land units that came from adjacent territories.
When you do an Amphibious assault, ALL land units involved, including those that are supporting the assault from adjacent territories, cannot retreat. To quote from the Milton Bradley rules clarifications concerning retreats from Amphibious assaults, ""There is no retreating for the amphibious assault force. It is a fight to the death. This is an exception to the normal retreating rules. Any air or adjacent land units supporting the amphibious assault CANNOT retreat either."" Note that if you have the 3rd Edition rules option of Air Retreat enabled, AIR units supporting the assault CAN retreat, but NO land units involved in the assault CAN retreat.
I have Super Subs, and rolled a 3 on defense, but it did not count as a hit.
This is correct. The Super Sub advantage of hitting on a roll of 3 only applies to attack rolls, not defensive rolls. From the MB Axis & Allies Rules Clarifications: ""Super submarine development allows each sub to attack by rolling a 3 or less,on the die instead of a 2 or less; each sub continues to defend by rolling a 2 or less on the die.""
Submarines get the first shot attack capability during every round of combat. Is this correct?
Yes, Submarines get the 'first strike' attack at the beginning of EACH round of combat, not just the first. (MB 2nd Edition Rules Clarifications).
The manual says I can violate neutrality, but when I attempt to move into a neutral country during Combat Movement, I get a message that's it's an illegal move.
Moving into a neutral territory costs 3 IPC's. If you attempt to move into a neutral territory during Combat Movement with not enough IPC's to do so, you will receive a message that this is an illegal move. If you are planning on moving into a neutral territory on your turn, you must watch what you spend during the Purchase Units phase, so that you leave enough IPC's to be able to enter neutral territories.
When I liberate certain territories from an enemy, they do not change to the color of the liberating country, but instead change to the color of the original owner.
This is correct. Certain territories, such as French West Africa, are owned in the start of the game by a certain country. When such territories are taken by an enemy, they change to the color and control of the conquering country(for instance, FWA would change to German control if it was taken by the Germans). If one of the UK Allies (USA or USSR), liberates that country, it reverts to UK control, since it was originally owned by the UK, and not to US or USSR control.
When I save the game at the Income Collection Phase and then reload it, the country gets double the IPC's.
This is a known issue. The only workaround at this time is to save at the end of the entire round, or save the game at some other point in the turn.
When I try to land a FTR (Fighter) back on one of my Carriers, the program won't let me, and I either lose the FTR, or I get stuck and have to exit the game.
This is a problem that has been addressed in the update, available for downloading from http://support.hasbro.com, or by requesting a copy from our technical support staff by calling 1-410-568-2377, or sending an email requesting the update to hasbro_support@aqinc.com.

Do I need to install Axis and Allies to install Axis and Allies Iron Blitz?
No, you do not need to install Axis and Allies before installing Axis and Allies Iron Blitz. Axis & Allies Iron Blitz is a stand-alone expansion to the original game.

Click Save, then Exit game.Exit the game, and email the resulting Save game file (myturn.sav) to the next player(Germany). Choose Multiplayer, then choose IPX or TCP/IP. 3. Choose Host, then click Begin. 4. Set yourself as the next player (in this example, Germany), and all other players as the AI. 5. Click Begin. 6. Go to Start, then Run.2. Type the command X:\DirectX\dxsetup.exe where X is the letter the CDROM drive containing the A&A cd. 3. Click on Re-install DirectX, and follow the prompts.
The game crashes to the desktop when I try to scroll the map with the mouse.
This will occur if DirectX was unable to install successfully or update the drivers. To correct this, Re-install DirectX from the Axis & Allies CD-ROM. Go to Start, Run, and enter ""X:\DirectX\DXsetup"" where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Click OK, then click on 'Reinstall DirectX"" and follow the prompts. If the problem persists, check to see if the Dplayx.dll file is in the Windows\System folder. If it is not, copy that file from the Axis & Allies CD-ROM, then re-install Directx again.
When I start the game, there is no text on the buttons.
This is a problem with Hardware Acceleration related to DirectX. To correct this, turn down Hardware Acceleration. 1. Go to Start, Settings, then Control Panel. 2. Double-click the System icon.3. Click the Performance tab, then the button labeled Graphics. 4. Move the slider for Hardware Acceleration one notch to the left. 5. Click Apply, then OK or Close, and restart the system when prompted. If that does not correct the problem, disable DirectDraw acceleration. 1. Go to Start, then Run.2. With the A&A Cd in the drive, type the command X:\DirectX\DXTOOL. Click OK.3. When the DirectX dialog box appears, Uncheck the option for DirectDraw Acceleration. 4. Click Apply, then OK.
After the Installshield appears, the installer disappears and nothing happens.
Try the following suggestions to help you install the game:1. Go to Start and choose Run.2. Type SYSEDIT in the dialog box, and click OK.3. Look in the 'C:\Autoexec.bat' window of the System Configuration Editor. Is there an entry for SET TEMP=?4. If not, start a new line and type SET TEMP=C:\windows\temp. 5. Go to File and choose Save.6. Restart your system and try the installation again. If this does not work, try the following: 1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click the C: drive icon.2. Double-click the Windows folder, then double-click the Temp folder. 3. Choose Edit, then Select All. When all the files in the Temp folder are highlighted, hit the Delete key on your keyboard. These files are just temporary files used in installations and have no practical purpose on your system. 4. Close all these windows to return to your desktop. 5. With your Right mouse button, click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and choose Properties from the menu. 6. Click the Performance tab, then the Graphics button. 7. Move the slider for 'Hardware Acceleration' one notch to the left. (It should now say ""Most Accelerator Functions"") 8. Click OK, close the window, and restart the system when prompted. 9. When your system is running again, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard, and select any item in the dialog box, except 'Explorer' and 'Systray.' Click End Task. Keep doing this until there is nothing left in the dialog box except 'Explorer' and 'Systray.'10. You should now be able to successfully install the game.
I am getting an error 111 when trying to install the program.
This error is generated by the install program when it is unable to access enough memory in which to run. Close all other open applications, including screensavers and anti-virus programs, then install the game.
I am getting an error move data process 115 when trying to install the game.
This error is generated by the Install program itself. This can occur for a couple of different reasons:1. You have selected the root directory of a drive in which to install the game. Re-run the install program, and go with the default directories for the install. 2. This will occur if the install program is trying to copy a file that your system has locked as read-only or in use. Exit the install program, restart the system, and shutdown all other background applications to make sure all files are closed and can be copied. 3. You do not have enough free harddrive space to install the game. Free up at least 60mb of free space, then install the game.4. Make sure the Supplemental Cache Size for the CD-ROM is set to Large: - Right click on My Computer and left click on Properties. - Click on the Performance tab - Click on File System and Click on the CD-ROM tab. Make sure the slider bar is all the way to the right, and it is set for Quad-speed or higher.
I am having trouble reading the CD in my Compaq computer.
There is a problem currently with all Compaq models with the CD-ROM drive working intermittently, or generating errors such as 'drive d: not accessible"". If you are experiencing any of these symptoms when trying to read the CD-ROM or when attempting to install the game, please refer to the information at the link below for instructions on refreshing the drivers for the CD-ROM to correct the problem . I get an error 6 when I try to install DirectX.
The DirectX setup program has determined that there is not enough free uncompressed harddrive space to install DirectX. Remove any unneeded files and or applications to free up some space on the C: drive, then reinstall DirectX.
I get an error 9 when trying to install DirectX.
This will occur if the setup program for DirecfX detects an internal error. The main reason for this error is that Dsetup.dll could not load the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files. To correct this, rename the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files.1. Go to Start, choose Find, choose Files or Folders.2. In the Named box, type ""dsetup*.*"" (without the quotes), then click Find Now.3. In the files found, find the dsetup16.dll file. Right-click on it, choose Rename, and rename it to dsetup16.dxx.4. In the files found, find the dsetup32.dll file. Right-click on it, choose Rename, and rename it to dsetup32.dxx.5. Re-install DirectX.
